Spokane Transit Authority  ·  Updated Oct. 14, 2026

Voters renewed Spokane Transit’s sales tax in August, and its first on-demand “STA Link” rides, including a Latah Valley zone, are launching this fall. We want to hear how it works for neighbors here.

What’s happening

Spokane Transit Authority (STA) Proposition 1 asked voters to renew the 0.2% local sales tax that funds transit. It does not raise the rate. The current tax ends December 31, 2028, and renewal would continue it through 2048. STA said on August 10 that the measure appeared to have passed. An August 12 count showed a very narrow lead; the certified final result is not confirmed.

STA’s plan includes on-demand “STA Link” pilots, and Latah Valley is one of the first two zones. Rides are shared by one to five passengers and can be requested by the STA Go app, online, or by phone at (509) 364-6200. The Latah Valley zone is listed as running Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fares are expected to match the bus: $2 standard, $1 reduced, and free for youth 18 and under. A registered Connect card is required and cash is not accepted. Exact launch date unconfirmed; STA’s own pages describe it both as launched and as launching this fall.

We have not confirmed whether the Latah Valley zone covers Hangman Valley, Meadowlane, Eagle Ridge or Inland Empire Way. The zone map in the STA Go app will show it.

Why it matters

Many neighbors have little or no bus service. A pilot is a trial: STA will judge it on ridership and rider feedback, so use and honest reports from neighbors help decide whether it continues and grows.

Where things stand

  • Next — Confirm the zone boundaries and launch date with STA, and collect neighbors’ experiences. No STA response on file.
  • Fall 2026 — STA Link launches in Latah Valley and North Spokane Valley. Exact date to be confirmed.
  • August 10, 2026 — STA says Proposition 1 appears to have passed. Final certified result to be confirmed.
  • August 4, 2026 — Proposition 1 on the primary election ballot.

How you can help

You do not need to be an expert. What you see every day is useful.

Start here (a few minutes)

  • Try it and tell us. Was a ride available when you needed it, and did it reach where you were going? Share it in the form below.
  • Check the zone map. Open the STA Go app or STA’s STA Link page to see whether your street is inside the Latah Valley zone, and tell us if it is not.

Community discussion

Have a question, an update or firsthand experience to share? Add to the conversation so neighbors and Council volunteers can work toward solutions together. Comments are reviewed by the council before they appear. Comments are community comments, not verified facts or official Council positions.
