Neighborhood Clean-Up Drop-Off

A free drive-through drop-off for garbage, yard waste and metal. Drive in, unload, and go — no charge.

The line closes at 11:30 a.m., so come earlier than you think.
Parking lot at W 17th Ave. & S Chestnut St., in Vinegar Flats.

Residential waste only — no waste from businesses. Bring the postcard that came in the mail to show you live in the neighborhood; a photo ID and a utility bill work just as well. Be prepared to unload your own vehicle.

What you can bring

Trash. Everyday household junk, furniture and appliances. Water heaters must be drained, and refrigerators and freezers are not accepted. Two tires maximum, with the rims removed. Mattresses and box springs are allowed. Break large items into smaller ones, remove nails from wood, and make sure everything can be lifted over an eight-foot wall.

Clean green. Must be bundled, bagged, or on a tarp for easy removal. Leaves, grass clippings, sod less than 2 inches thick, pine needles, pinecones, brush, and limbs less than 3 inches in diameter and under 4 feet long. No rock, gravel, or animal waste.

Metal. Any mostly metal item — empty water heaters, stoves, washers, dryers, lawnmowers. Items must be drained of gas and oil.

What cannot be accepted

The City reserves the right to refuse anything dangerous, hazardous, toxic, corrosive or reactive. That includes items containing freon, fluorescent lighting tubes, compact fluorescent bulbs, and any mercury-containing lights. Fire debris, paint, drywall and concrete are not accepted.

Electronics — TVs, computers, monitors, DVD players and e-readers — can be dropped off free through the E-Cycle Washington program instead. Visit ecyclewashington.org or call 1-800-RECYCLE.

Volunteers are needed

This is the first year we are running the event without a work crew from County Corrections, so the whole day rests on neighbors. We need a minimum of eight volunteers to keep the line moving and get everyone unloaded safely.

Contact Pat Nault, our volunteer clean-up coordinator, at panault@icloud.com to sign up for a slot. If you belong to an HOA, we are asking each one for two or three people.

Disposal passes, if Saturday does not work

We also have 16 disposal passes on hand, good through October 31 — a free load to the transfer station on your own schedule. Email latahconnect@gmail.com to claim one, first come first served.
