Vinegar Flats entry  ·  Updated Oct. 14, 2026

Neighbors want weeds controlled on the sidewalks coming into Vinegar Flats. The City treats rights-of-way, but who is responsible for weeds in the sidewalk itself is not clear.

What’s happening

The council’s list flags weeds on the sidewalks coming into Vinegar Flats. We have not yet pinned down the specific blocks.

We have no record yet of this being reported to the City or of any City response.

Who handles it

  • Rights-of-way and traffic islands: the City sprays and cuts weeds on these. Report at Spokane 311 (spokane311.org or 3-1-1).
  • Curb line: the City asks residents to maintain their own curb line.
  • Sidewalks: The City page does not say who is responsible for weeds in the sidewalk itself. To be confirmed.

Why it matters

Weeds in sidewalks make walking harder and make the entrance look neglected. Knowing who is responsible helps us ask the right office.

Where things stand

  • Next — Report the blocks through Spokane 311 and ask the City who is responsible for sidewalk weeds. No City response on file.
  • Raised by council — Added to the council’s open issues list. Date and who raised it to be confirmed.

How you can help

You do not need to be an expert. What you see every day is useful.

Start here (a few minutes)

  • Report the spot. Use Spokane 311 and note the block.
  • Tell us too. Share the spot, when it happens and what you saw in the form below, so we can follow up with the City.
  • Keep your own frontage clear. If you live along the route, pulling weeds in front of your home helps.

Community discussion

Have a question, an update or firsthand experience to share? Add to the conversation so neighbors and Council volunteers can work toward solutions together. Comments are reviewed by the council before they appear. Comments are community comments, not verified facts or official Council positions.
